What is a good dog breed?

I typically prefer larger dogs such as goldens and labs ect. i am currently living in an apartment that has a 30 pound weight limit on pets. what breed of dog would be good for a guy who likes the personalities of dogs such as the ones stated above?
Basically what im asking is what smaller breed of dog would match most of the characteristics of labs or goldens. one of the most important things is it has to be energetic

Golden Retriever vs Rough Collie? Help?

Hi all,
I am moving into a basement suite soon and am getting another dog. Currently I own a Pomeranian who is 2 years old and she is playful and gets along great with dogs of all other sizes, including my Aunt’s 100lbs German Shepherd! I am struggling on deciding on which breed I should get. I’ve fallen in love with the Rough Collie and the Golden Retriever. The basement suite has a large/medium yard and a huge park which is a 5 minute walk away. I don’t mind shedding at all. I like how both breeds are intelligent and eager to please/easy to train/potty train. I do love the retriever, and how family friendly it is. However I dislike how clingy and the in-your-face personality this dog *can* have. But I absolutely adore Goldens and growing up I always wanted one but wasn’t allowed a big dog, so I got my Pomeranian. Now I do love the patient temperament of the Golden. I love how easily this breed will be able to get along with my Pom and other future pets. I do not like how the dog easily welcomes strangers, if I were ever in danger, I’d like the breed I choose to let me know. The Collie: I love this dog. It’s my ultimate dream dog. I love how calm and loyal this dog can be. I like how this dog will also be ready to play whenever you want to, and how it has an off switch. Also, how this dog is not so clingy. The only thing I dislike about the Rough Collie is how barky it may get. All in all I love both breeds equally. I just can’t make up my mind! Both fit my lifestyle, and both are great overall! Which one should I choose and why?

PS I will be getting a male dog, and getting him as a puppy.
