Your Questions About Dogs Life Jackets
Steven asks…
How do I teach my dog that when he has a life jacket on, he can float?
My corgi and I go out on the lake a lot and he loves to swim in the water. I got him a life jacket for when we swim in the middle of the lake so he can float around and not tire himself out. The problem is is I don’t think he realizes he doesn’t have to swim constantly with the life jacket on, he can just float. How do I teach him that he doesn’t have to tire himself out swimming frantically in circles and that he can just float??

What is your opinion on Pit Bull Terriers?
I am intrested in peoples opinion and what they base it on.
For those of you who think I am looking for negative responses, I’m not. I have a pit bull who I have raised since he was 5wks old. He is an amazing loving dog and I just wanted to hear why people were so affraid of them.
My “Snickers” is the most loving, people pleasing dog I have ever had the pleasure to train.

I’m looking for small inside breed, not toys like the Chihuahua. German spitz /Beagle size with Labrador / Rough collie temperament.Good choice for a 7 year old … don’t worry I got the pet knowing i would have to take care of !
So I need dog which has less of a tendency to become aggressive/dominant or nervous/frustrated around kids, easy to be socialized and train, low energy but playful, friendly with other pets, dogs, kids and strangers, low prey drives, which doesn’t bark much , easy to maintain, grooming etc…
I was raised around hunting and working dogs, no good experience with small companion breeds.
Thanks and I would like to hear owners or people who work with dogs too.

Temperament of a border collie x rottweiler pup?
I was just wondering what the temperament of a Border Collie x Rottweiler would be, I know since it is a mixed breed you can’t be certain of its temperament but could anyone give me a rough estimate? Also could I have rough estimates for these as well?
Excessive requirements:
Youngest age of child that it could be with: (newborn to teen)
Trainability: (this one I am not really worried about but an estimate would be good)
Thanks!
Sorry, I meant Excersize requirements 😛

Your Questions About Collie Man
Ruth asks…
How do I cope after my dog was put down due to aggression?
I must clarify this dog belonged to my brother and his girlfriend. It was their decision and I disagree with it. I am 20 years old and well aware of the circumstances surrounding their choice. But it was not what I would have done.
Zara was a mix of a collie and labrador. Absolutely lovely dog and always made my day. However, she was always afraid of people. As a pup she used to back away from them. But as she got older she began barking and then lunging. After she tried to bite a friend of my brother’s, my family discussed it and decided it was the safest thing to do as there are many children in the area and it is impossible to keep an eye on her at all times. I was told yesterday evening about the decision and 24 hours later she is gone. I said my goodbyes and I am thankful for that. However, I became so close to the dog I feel quite empty inside knowing that she is gone. I feel I have let her down.
As I have said the decision was not mine and I disagreed with it. I know the reasons behind the decision were valid. I just can’t cope with the fact she is gone. Is there any way to cope with this? Thank you
Also to clarify she has lunged at several people before we have intervened. It was only a matter of time before it happened when nobody was around.
We took her to several behaviour specialists and classes. Nothing was working. This was recommended to us by the local vet.

How do you deal with losing your dog?
My dog is still living, but I am sad to say that she is already 14. She is so very healthy at this age, which is good, I am grateful to have such a healthy dog at such a old age. But, I know that a dog’s life can go downhill fast, and I am scared knowing that she may only have a couple of years left…I dred the day that I will have to say goodbye to her. I don’t want that to happen but I know it will and I don’t know how to deal with it.
She has been my best friend since I was 6 years old and I’ve loved her more than I love myself. Losing her will be like losing everything I have ever known.
How does one cope with losing your best friend? One that’s never judged you and loved you no matter how much the rest of the world hated you? This may be years from now, or it may be in the next few months, but whenever the time comes, I want to know how to deal with it.
Someone with experience in this.
My dad, who lost his dog when he was 15 still cries when he thinks about her. And he never cries, he is also 59. The fact that a tiny animal can carry a persons love after they are gone amazes me.
How can I possibly deal with this when it happens?
Thank you.

Your Questions About Dog’s Life Ending
Laura asks…
Should I have my dog tattooed for identification purposes?
I have been reading about this and it sounds very smart. I read that they give them the same stuff as when they are being spayed to fall asleep. I also read that it takes up to 15 seconds to finish the tattoo.
It will have phone numbers and a addressees. I also read that their is no redness and most peoples dog’s woke up a didn’t even notice. I have a collar with contact information on it to. My dogs stomach does not have any hair on it, so it is just skin. The tattoo will be a little larger than the size of a quarter.
I know of Microchips, but I have been reading a lot of how some dogs became sick or ill from them. It will only take 15 seconds to write contact info and their is no hair on her stomach so it will be very noticeable. I just want to make sure my dog is safe if anything bad happens.

And what would you do? The questions about a dog’s last day got me thinking. I love my family, but if life as I know it were over in a day, I think I would spend the day with my dogs (and my husband). Ideally, we would travel to the Adirondacks with the canine and equine family and spend the day playing in the lake, hiking and letting the horses graze and run around the large field. I think I would be content. What about you?

Your Questions About Dog’s Life Cycle
Steven asks…
What can I do to help my 1 yr old female blue pit with aggression?
She was spayed over the summer when she was about 6 months old and in her first heat cycle. Yesterday when my husbands friends came over after work as soon as one of the men walked in the house all I heard was barking and growling and then she ran towards him. I have never seen her this way. She’s usually really calm, great with my kids. I don’t want to have her put down I want to work with her. She has only shown aggression in the past when dealing with veterinarians or getting her nails clipped considering she had a traumatic experience at Petco after getting a whole nail cut off by a trainee. I just basically need some advice.
I want to also add that my dog gets adequate exercise. She is fed regularly on top quality food and is very much loved. Never been abused except by her previous owner who had her for the first 4 months of her life. I have also taken her to training classes including a class for just the pitty breed alone. She has interacted with other dogs, cats, children and men.

Your Questions About Dog’s Life Vest
Richard asks…
I don’t fully agree with atheists or theists. Here’s are my qualms and questions to both of you?
Atheists, I can agree with those of you that say that based on current knowledge and evidence, we can’t say there is a God, and that you won’t believe in one until there is evidence. I do, however, have a problem with those of you that say with complete certainty that there is no higher being, and that there is no doubt whatsoever? Why? Think of it this way:
A dog has limited intelligence. Based on what it can perceive, based on what it can retain and observe based on it’s limited environment, and based on said limited intelligence, a dog can with complete certainty think that the yard it lives in is the entire world, or that the humans it has seen are the only humans in the entire world, or that it will live forever. We know these things to be false, because we have higher intelligence, and know of things that are far beyond a dog’s comprehension and intelligence.
In the same way, what makes you think that we as humans, are so knowledgeable? We have not even explored most of our own galaxy in the immeasurable universe; in that sense we are like the dog, chained in a yard, with a limited outlook on the grand picture. So, how can we with absolute and complete confidence say that there is no higher being, until we have complete knowledge of the universe?
Now, my question for theists. What makes you say that a higher beings cares particularly about us; why do you think he vests such a personal interest in us? We are not special. We are merely organisms with a higher intelligence level than most. Also, it works the same way, both ways. How can you, with complete certainty, say that a higher being does exist, when there is no proof? How can you even know the details of Heaven, Hell, angels, when there is not a shred of proof, except for your religious texts, which were written in an ignorant time when men thought the world was flat?
I myself am an agnostic, and although I don’t personally believe in a higher being, I don’t rule out the possibility that one might exist. However, if one does exist, I take the deists’ approach, that it does not interfere in human concerns.
@ Fiction Slayer. You’re not answering my question, just avoiding it. I’m certainly not saying that you should believe in some ancient religious text; I’m merely saying it is illogical and ignorant to claim with 100% certainty that a God does not exist, based on the reasons I provided.

I myself am an agnostic atheist, and although I won’t personally believe in a higher being until there if proof, I don’t rule out the possibility that one might exist. However, if one does exist, I take the deists’ approach, that it does not interfere in human concerns.
