Dogs are basically scavengers and they do well on most sorts of food.
In the old days I used to feed my dogs just plain dog biscuit kibble and breast of lamb or offal from the village butchers shop. There was no fancy complete foods in those days. Allergies in dogs was almost unheard of and my dogs lived long and healthy lives.
The dog food industry is big Business and they are all eager to make us believe that their product is the best and that if we don`t feed our dogs with their wonderful vitamin filled food we are guilty of not providing our dogs with a correct diet.
There are some good basic complete dry foods on the market that just use simple wholesome ingredients whereas others have all sorts of fancy ingredients that are not really needed by dogs and can cause allergies and digestive problems.
I think if a dog is doing well on what it is being fed and enjoys its food then stick with it.

Well, I’ve been where you are! It used to be so rediculous because we would spend 2-300 dollars and be out of food within a week! I’m also not a good cook, but I’m learning! Here are my tips, take them for what their worth, but I’ve learned a lot these last 3 years! In my house it’s me, my hubby, my 3 1/2 year old, and my 9month old, a cat, a dog (half beagle, half cocker-spaniel, so medium sized) and a fish that never dies (seriously, we forget to feed it for like 3 weeks and it’s still here! Lol)

Right now, I spend roughly $200 2x a month, but that includes EVERYTHING, including medicines, cleaners, etc.

Now I don’t buy everything cheap, but I try to shop smarter. I plan ahead and make a list. It helps me to create menus for the next 2 weeks of meals (I sit down and ask what everyone wants for dinner and then i make a list of everything i need to buy to make those meals. Then I pick up basics for lunches (bread, lunchmeat, peanutbutter & jelly, mac-n-cheese, spagetti-o’s, etc.) Then I add in snacks- I ask my hubby for a few snack ideas. I try to keep this to a minimum so i don’t overbuy. Then, I add in cat & dog food, formula, diapers, cleaners, etc. It is best to keep a list in a place like the fridge so as you run out of something (like deodorant) you can write it down. This keeps me from having to go back for things i forgot we needed and spending more than i budgeted for.

Then, stick to your list. Buying items you don’t need or on the fly ALWAYS costs you more $$ than you intended. Also, coupons are a great way to save extra $$, but I totally get that not only are they annoying, you might also buy things you don’t actually need just because you have a coupon for it!

Another thing is, figure how much do you use something? If you don’t use paper towel very often, buy the cheap stuff. If you do, make sure you are getting the most on the roll for your $$. Don’t be swayed by gimicks of “softness” or “quilted”. Toilet paper was like this for me. I used to buy scott brand because it lasted forever, but it was much like wiping with paper towel in my hubby’s opinion. And it was expensive. So i switched to angel soft. Yes it was cheap, but I had to buy the big 24 pack every 2 weeks, it was crazy! After a while, it’s not so cheap anymore. So i finally found a balance and buy charmin basic now. 12 double rolls, and it lasts me a month or so.

Now, i don’t buy organic, and I don’t make my own baby food. I buy huggies diapers when i have a coupon, and pampers wipes. My dog eats kibbles and bits or dog chow (whichever is cheaper at the time) I buy the big bag of mixed chips snacks (the individual portion sizes) to control my hubby’s snacking- portion control is easier than watching him eat out of the big bags LOL. I buy pepsi and bottled water, and amish noodles (yum!). So no, we don’t eat “cheap” food, but i have learned to shop smarter over the years! I have gone to save-a-lot on occasion, but I have found here lately, sometimes their prices aren’t any better than walmart’s!

Ok, I know this is EXTREMELY long and i’m sorry! Haha I just know what it’s like to be in your shoes and get so frustrated with the grocery bill, and it seems you have nothing to show for it at the end of the week! And when hubby eats everything as if you’re magically always going to have more- it gets very frustrating! =) I have a lot more ideas and ways to cook at home very cheap and easy too! (oh, and by the way, keep track for one month how much you eat out- I found out we used to spend like $80 a week on groceries, then around $300 a month eating out because it never seemed like we had food in the house. Or we had cheap food like mac-n-cheese or ramen noodles. Now we cut back our eating out to once a week if that, and put about $200 extra into our grocery bill. It saves us $ in the long run, and even though i don’t always cook “healthy” at home, it is generally healthier for us in the long run, and my daughter isn’t living off of chicken nuggets and french fries anymore!)

Making your own food is VERY time consuming and you should take her to the vet more often to make sure she is getting all the nutrients. I tryed this and my vet just told me to stop because there was always something wrong and my dog wasnt getting what he really needed.

So I looked on Y!A and found out about some REALLY good dog food. Theres IS good dog food outthere with NO wheat gluten (which is why there was a recall) no fillers, by products or corn.

No he wouldn’t be allergic to his own fur, but could very well have a skin condition (that could worsen when the hair becomes longer and unkept).

Avoid bathing more then once a month, usually bathing only worsens dry skin on dogs… Person above is a tool! =D

I feed my dogs a homemade food which includes a mixture of all raw meats and offal (except pork), green leafy vegetables, carrots, broccoli, apples (all liquidised), sunflower and pumpkin seeds (crushed), organic sunflower oil, honey, a little garlic, boiled white rice.

Onions should be avoided as should exotic vegetables (bell peppers, egg plant etc). As a rule of thumb I avoid any vegetables that wouldn’t normally be found in the stomach of prey animals and limit offal to 10% of the whole mix.

If you want the recipe then just say so and I’ll happily post it on here for you 🙂

Here you go – All of the food is raw – no need to cook any of it and definitely NO salt, pepper or other condiments 🙂

1 kg raw beef mince
1 kg raw beef
1 kg raw mutton/lamb
1.5 kg raw chicken/turkey (white or dark meat it doesn’t matter)
1.5 kg raw tripe
1 kg mixed raw offal – liver, kidney, heart

Ethnic butchers are the best source of meat as they stock a much wider range at cheaper prices, will often deliver and best of all will chop most of the meat to your specifications, which saves loads of time.

The meat should be chopped into pieces roughly the size of the top of your thumb.

2 kg of mixed leafy/green vegetables (spinach, spring greens, broccoli, green beans, turnip greens)
1.5 kg carrotts
1 kg apples
2 large (supermarket sized) bunches of fresh parsley
1.5 kg of frozen peas, lightly cooked
300g sunflower seeds
100g pumpkin seeds
100g sesame seeds

Pulverise all of the above in a food processor so that it resembles a slightly textured cold soup.

Mix all of the above ingredients together (I use a large rubber tub trug, but washing up bowls or buckets will do just as well and then add:

1 kg white rice – cooked (ie 1kg is the raw weight)
1 medium jar of organic honey
1 tube of garlic puree
1 tube of tomato puree
2 tablespoons of brewers yeast
1 – 2 cups of sunflower oil

Mix together well and weigh out daily portions into freezer bags and freeze 🙂

I allow 25-30g of food per kilogram of body weight (or expected adult weight in the case of puppies). Feed this amount for the first 2-3 weeks and then adjust up or down according to weight gain or loss until you reach the optimum portion for your dog’s metabolism.

The dogs love it and are fantastically healthy (it has been approved by my vet).

First – 9mm is not allowed in competition. I got no clue what kinda competiton you are doing that uses a 9mm. Duh? For military, state, regional, and national shooting matches and competition the requirement is a 1911 45acp in ‘ as issued’ condition. Although the rules will allow a Baretta 92F in “as issued” condition nobody in their right mind will use one – since even the US Army shooting team has not figured out a way to make a competition 92F model that can equal, let alone beat – the 1911.

Second – Glocks, Sigs, Springfield XD’s – these are all service carry and duty carry pistols. None of them are suitable for competition.

Third – if you want a gun that is cheap to shoot and can be used in competition – you should be looking at a 22 long rifle pistol and probably a gun like the S&W Model 22a. This is a perfect enty level pistol for competiton and will not break the bank – it is quite affordable.

Nobody should begin pistol shooting with anything except a 22lr. For $400 you can get a nice model 22a and 2,000 rounds of 22 ammo. Enough to become a really good shot. You go buy a 9mm and start learning to shoot on it – two years from now you will still be a lousy shot and only have $400 in spent brass + a 9mm pistol to show for your troubles…….. So – the choice – do you want to have a bag of spent cases come 2012 or would you like to have a nice 22 pistol, nice 9mm pistol, and be a good shot for the same money?

It’s more important to choose a wet food filled with healthy ingredients overall than to worry about ash levels.

Vets used to be concerned with the ash levels in cat foods for cats with FLUTD, but they have learned recently that ash and magnesium levels don’t play a huge role in the developement and treatment of UTI’s.

As far as what you should be feeding…Let me share with you what I have learned about feline nutrition to help you make an informed decision on what diet you should feed your cats.

Many brands of manufactured cat foods claiming to be “healthy” really are not. In fact they are made of the lowest ingredients possible. I’m not saying that a cat can’t live off them… Just the same as you could live off hot dogs and Mac and cheese forever, but better choices can and should be made for your feline friends. I would not venture to say that any manufactured food is “best” for a cat but a grain free organic wet food would be a good start. Feeding canned is certainly better than feeding dry in all cases.

Cats were never meant to eat dry food, also known as cereals or kibble. We, humans, make them eat it for convenience to us. It has nothing to do with them or their nutritional needs. It’s completely species inappropriate.

In the wild, cats derive their entire liquid intake from their prey. They do not have a thirst mechanism because they don’t need it when eating a species appropriate diet. They get all they need from what they eat. So they do not drink water. Regular ol’ house cats have descended from those same wild cats.

So in a home environment, your kitty does not get the moisture it need from dry food and are almost always in a constant state of dehydration. Water fountains are encouraged to TRY to get your cat to drink more and your kitty may even enjoy it. But it will never meet its water intake needs drinking from a bowl.

Deadly feline illnesses such as diabetes, kidney failure, obesity, stones, urinary tract blockages and Urinary Tract Infections (FLUTD), with and without deadly crystals run rampant these days. Cats are not taking in enough water to stave them off. Proper water intake through a species appropriate diet alone can prevent most of these conditions.

Overall, wet is a better all around better for any cats diet, be it canned or Raw and they should never be fed dry cereal kibble if we wish to most closely match their wild nutritional and dietary needs.

Kibble meets our needs… not our cats.

It is also bogus that kibble cleans teeth. DRY FOOD DOES NOT CLEAN TEETH. It’s an old myth that has been scientifically disproved for years, but old-school vets drilled it into people’s heads for so long (and sadly still do) that people still believe it. Cats can not “chew”. They do not have chewing teeth. They have meat ripping pointy carnivorous teeth. They do not have molars. They may “crunch” a piece of food once to crack and break it… but they are absolutely unable to chew a hard piece if food. Want your cat to have clean teeth? Give them an appropriately sized raw bone. :o)

I personally feed a Raw Meat and Bones based diet to my cats and they are very healthy on it. I HIGHLY recommend it. Once I got the hang of it and felt comfortable with it it’s a snap to prepare. It’s something you might want to consider someday. They are obligate carnivores after all and must derive ALL their nutrients from meat based sources. They are unable to absorb them from any other source. Despite thousands of years of domestication they remain strictly carnivorous. True and honest meat eaters and that is what they need most. Protein from meat!

If raw is not an option for you please be aware that there are three Categories of Pet Foods:

-“Grocery store” foods – (Generic Brands and cheap name brands) Those foods found in grocery stores and mass-market retailers are made with lower-quality, less-digestible, inexpensive ingredients and are therefore a cheaper alternative. While easy on the pocketbook, “grocery store” foods normally do not provide your cat with the healthiest, most nutrient-dense ingredients.

-Premium foods – (Iams/Eukanuba, Purina One, Hills Science Diet, Nutro and such) Foods often found in grocery stores, pet stores, and veterinarian offices that contain higher-grade ingredients, but still include many elements of “grocery store” food, such as artificial colors, artificial flavors, chemical preservatives, and “filler” ingredients such as corn and wheat products, by-products and even animal digest. Yuck! Premium foods are usually more expensive than “grocery store” foods because their ingredients are sometimes of a higher quality, and are therefore somewhat more beneficial and digestible. But don’t be fooled, some of those same so called Premium brands are sometimes worse than grocery store foods, but they charge prices like they are better. They aren’t!

-Healthy foods – (Wellness, Merrick, Eagle Pack, Drs Foster & Smith) The newest addition to the pet food market – provide pets with the highest quality, healthiest, and most nutritious ingredients. I’m glad you’re looking into why certain foods are bad or good.

It is true that many many brands of manufactured cat foods claiming to be “healthy” really are not. In fact they are made of the lowest ingredients possible.

I’m not saying that a cat can’t live off them… Just the same as you could live off hot dogs forever, but better choices can and should be made.

I would not venture to say that any manufactured food is “best” for a cat but a grain free organic food would be good. And canned is certainly better than Dry in all cases.

I personally feed a Raw Meat and Bones based diet to my cats and they are very healthy on it. I HIGHLY recommend it. Once I got the hang of it and felt comfortable with it it’s a snap to prepare. It’s something you might want to consider someday. They are obligate carnivores after all and must derive ALL their nutrients from meat based sources. They are unable to absorb them from any other source. Despite thousands of years of domestication they remain strictly carnivorous. True and honest meat eaters and that is what they need most. Protein from meat!

If raw is not an option for you be aware that there are three Categories of Pet Foods:

-“Grocery store” foods – (Generic Brands and cheap name brands) Those foods found in grocery stores and mass-market retailers are made with lower-quality, less-digestible, inexpensive ingredients and are therefore a cheaper alternative. While easy on the pocketbook, “grocery store” foods normally do not provide your cat with the healthiest, most nutrient-dense ingredients.

-Premium foods – (Iams/Eukanuba, Purina One, Hills Science Diet, Nutro and such) Foods often found in grocery stores, pet stores, and veterinarian offices that contain higher-grade ingredients, but still include many elements of “grocery store” food, such as artificial colors, artificial flavors, chemical preservatives, and “filler” ingredients such as corn and wheat products, by-products and even animal digest. Yuck! Premium foods are usually more expensive than “grocery store” foods because their ingredients are sometimes of a higher quality, and are therefore somewhat more beneficial and digestible. Over the years my life has been saved several times by my dogs.

Once in the late 80’s I had a seizure while sitting on the edge of a bridge overlooking the Colorado river while it was in spring flood. I fell in unconscious. The chesapeake bay retriever I had at the time leaped in after me and dragged me out. She was a trained service dog for mobility and hearing. Never had been trained for any kind of water rescue..

Another time that summer the same dog rescued my little sister who was about 4 . She had decided to sneak onto a little raft and ended up floating downriver. I was fishing downriver a quite ways and saw her upstream floating down, So sent the dog for her as I threw down my fishing gear. My sister thought it was a great game so had not panicked and she trusted the dog . So the dog got her out by grabbing the little raft by the end carefully and fetching her in . My mother was running downstream across the boulders screaming thinking she had just LOST her child. Guess she thought the dog was going to puncture the raft .
She was blown away when she saw the dog save my little sister.
My sister wanted to play that game again.. My mother promptly dragged the little urchin home.

Another of my chessie service dogs around 2000 saved me from getting killed in a crosswalk by some idiot racing through a red light. She pushed me back out of the way but the bumper just clipped her jaw. She broke a few teeth and her jaw was cracked. She did not even let me know she got hurt until I got across the street and back to my truck. .

But there are so many stories of what these working dogs have done over the years to save my life or limb it would take a while to write it all.

HELLO are you there???????? You tell us that she just had puppies. Then you moved with her, you changed her food, are taking the pups away for hours at a time…. She is stressed out and afraid. If your dog feels insecure she can act out. This dog needs structure, and to stay with her pups for awhile to assure her everything is okay. She may think the pups are at the old home, and is trying to get out to go find them. Dogs don’t have an idea of how far away the old place is, they just know they want to go where they felt safe. If she did just whelp, then her hormones are also in flux, and she is just out of her mind with worry and stress. It is a bad idea to change EVERYTHING in a dogs life at one time….. I think you will have to work very hard to show her she is safe, her pups are safe, and get back to a routine with her as soon as possible. Dogs thrive on routine, LIke, the same eating time, same walking time, same place to sleep , etc. It may be a long road, for her to feel relaxed again. If she is vomiting you should go to the vet and have her checked out right away, there are many things associated with having puppies, that can cause a dog to get ill or die.

Yes when I travelled by steam train from London to Carlisle when I was a wee Lassie.

The coaches of the train had separate compartments and each had 6 seats either side. All the seats had little white covers on the headrest and there were blinds to pull down when it was dark outside.

The outside of each compartment had a corridor running the length of the each coach. This was good as you could go down the whole length of the train by running along these corridors apart from the 1st class coaches, which in those days were always situated at the front of the train.

If the guard stopped you running along these corridors you would say you were going to find a toilet. When the train was full up people used to stand in the corridors or sit on their leather suitcases reading books or reading their newspapers.

Steam trains made a different noise from that of the electric and deisel trains of today. They used to rock from side to side and the whilstle used blow when the train went under a tunnel it was all so very exciting.

There is a poem recalling a train journey which might sound naff but it just brought the whole experience of travelling on s steam train to life. I can’t remember the name of this poem but nodoubt someone will remember.

Nostalgia you can’t beat it.

Iams, Royal Canin, and Nutro are all low quality dog foods. There is no ‘best’ dog food. The best dog food for your dog is the high quality dog food he does best on.

Not all pet food is made equally. A lot of it is full of corn, by-products, dyes, unhealthy preservatives, filler grains and all sorts of nasty stuff. A lot of pet food companies are perfectly happy to the dump cheap leftovers and things that aren’t safe for human consumption (from human food processing plants) into their foods. Will it kill your dog? No, it has to be nutritionally complete and safe to even be marketed. Is it healthy? Not by a long shot.

Corn is a low quality ingredient you never want to see in your pet food. Corn and low quality grains are two of the biggest culprits when it comes to food allergies in our pets.

Thankfully, there are some excellent dog foods being made these days that include organic, human grade ingredients rather than trash not fit for human consumption.

Examples of low quality foods to avoid: Anything you can find in a grocery store will be low end, Purina, Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet, Royal Canin, Pedigree, Kibbles n’ Bits, Beneful, Ol’Roy.

Examples of high quality foods to look for: Innova, Wellness, Solid Gold, Canidae All Life Stages, Fromm Four Star, Merrick, GO Natural, Nature’s Variety Prairie, Nature’s Logic, Artemis Fresh Mix, Timberwolf Organics.

Although the high quality foods are more expensive, you’re getting what you’re paying for. Less filler material and higher quality ingredients means more concentrated nutrients… This means you typically need to feed far less of the high quality food than you would of the low quality one. Which also means less poop!

Seriously on a budget? Two of the most affordable of the higher quality foods would be Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover’s Soul and Canidae All Life Stages.

Before following your vet’s food recommendation, keep in mind that vets get /very/ little nutritional training during their schooling. Besides that, what training they /do/ get is usually sponsored or taught by… You guessed it, the crappy pet food companies! They also often get kickbacks from the companies for pushing these products at their clinics (Science Diet, Royal Canin etc.)

A great option is to go with an entirely grain-free diet. Many of the high quality foods now put out grain-free formulas. Some good grain-free diets include: Innova EVO, Wellness CORE, Blue Wilderness, Nature’s Variety Instinct, Orijen, Horizon Legacy, Canidae Grain Free All Life Stages, Fromm Surf & Turf, Now!, GO Natural Grain Free, Sold Gold Barking At The Moon, Ziwipeak, and Taste of the Wild.

Some pretty decent foods can even be found in common pet stores. Petsmart carries Blue Buffalo products (such as the excellent grain-free diet, Blue Wilderness). Petco carries Wellness, Solid Gold, Natural Balance, Eagle Pack Holistic Select, Blue Buffalo, Castor & Pollux Organix, Pinnacle, and Halo.

If you can’t find a food, most of the high quality dog food brands have websites with store locators on them that will help you find the store closest to you which supplies their products. Simply type the dog food brand’s name into Google, go to their website, and type your zip code into their store locator.

Remember that foods should be switched gradually (mixing the new slowly in with the old over the period of about week or so), especially when switching to a higher quality one, so as not to upset tummies. For example:

Breed specific food is a marketing scam. Size specific doesn’t really matter once your dog reaches adult age.

Purina is crap. Most vets do not receive a whole lot of nutritional training, and the seminars they attend are hosted by Hill’s, Purina, etc. They sometimes receive bonuses from the companies for vouching for their products. Go to a holistic vet, and he/she will condemn Purina. Why? Because it’s a bag of cornmeal with some mystery meat and by-products, and artificial colors, preservatives, etc. Added to it.

The best adult dry food on the market has to be Orijen. Compare the ingredients to your dogs current food. It has high protein that most dogs do well on, is grain-free, and can help with weight loss/maintenance, because it does not include so many of the useless carbs crappy supermarket brands have. Orijen is made from fresh regional ingredients passed fit for human consumption, and is independently manufactured, so there is better quality control.

Purina ONE Healthy Weight Management:

Turkey, brewers rice, corn gluten meal, poultry by-product meal, corn bran, whole grain corn, whole grain wheat, oat meal, natural flavors, beef tallow preserved with mixed tocopherols (source of vitamin E), dicalcium phosphate, salt, calcium carbonate, potassium chloride, choline chloride, l-lysine monohydrochloride, vitamin supplements (E, A, B12, D3), zinc sulfate, ferrous sulfate, riboflavin supplement, niacin, calcium pantothenate, manganese sulfate, biotin, thiamine mononitrate, folic acid, copper sulfate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, garlic oil, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of vitamin K activity), calcium iodate, sodium selenite.

The turkey is good, but I doubt Purina uses human grade meat and since it’s a fresh meat that is not backed up by a meat meal (already cooked and more concentrated), it will lose water content during processing and drop down the ingredient list.
Brewer’s rice is a nickname for “floor sweepings” rice and has very little nutritional value.
Corn gluten meal is corn, and a common canine/feline allergen. I also doubt Purina uses human grade corn kernel (which has a 99% digestibility), so the digestibility goes down. Many dog owners notice that their dogs have smaller, firmer stools after switching from a supermarket brand to something better. Why? It’s the corn.
Poultry by-product meal is a generic meat source, and the by-products are not specified, which means they could even be beaks, feathers, etc.
That is followed by even more corn.
Wheat is another common canine/feline allergen with little digestibility.
Menadione (synthetic vitamin K) is a controversial ingredient that has been linked to kidney problems in various studies.

A lot of the times with small dogs you have to mix something in with their food to get them to eat it. Examples: ground beef, fish oil ( this one works really well and it’s very good for their skin and coat), any kind of meat that’s chopped super fine so it can be mixed in really well with the dry, canned dog food, or the one that I call doggy crack because dogs go nuts for it, green tripe. Smells AWFUL but wow do they love it and it’s very good for them. Solid Gold sells it in a can that you can buy at Petco.

As far as dry foods go, the two that I’ve found that my very picky Toy Fox Terrier will eat are Wellness “Just for Small Breeds” and Solid Gold “Just a Wee Bit”. You could also try a brand called Timberwolf organics and they make several varieties that are of good quality and the kibbles are TEENY, like pellets almost. Or you could try Innova Evo “Small bites” (although my dog wasn’t too fond of this one)

National Dex

Have over sixty Pokemon in your Pokedex and defeat the Elite Four. Return to Pallet Town and see the professor. He will give the National Dex to Gary and yourself. You can use it to see the data for all 386 Pokemon.
# Network Machine

This allows you to trade to Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. Fix the Network Machine on One Island. To do this, get the Sapphire and Ruby items and take them to the machine.
# Mystery Gift option

Enter any Pokemon Mart and go to the clipboard that is by the shop keeper on the counter. Take the survey and enter in the words “LINK TOGETHER WITH ALL”. The man will then alert you that you can now have access to the Mystery Gift option, after saving. To make it easier to find the word you are looking for, press Select, which will take you to A-Z mode, then select the a letter to bring up a list of words, beginning with the first letter of the word that it begins with.
# Get all starters

To get all the starters (Bulbasaur,Charmander, and Squirtle), you will need two Game Boy Advances and another Pokemon GBA game. Start with Bulbasaur, then trade it to your other Pokemon game. After that, start a new game. Start with Charmander and trade it. Then, start another new game and start with Squirtle. Keep Squirtle and catch two Pokemon that you do not want. Trade them for the other two starters you traded to your other Pokemon game. You will now have all three starters.
# Aerodactyl

To get the ancient Pokemon Aerodactyl, go to the house to the right of the Museum in Pewter City. Note: You must have Cut. Talk to the scientist and he will give you the Old Amber. Take it to the Lab on Cinnabar Island and let the scientist bring it back to life. It will be at level 5.

To obtain Deoxys, you must travel to Island 9 and push the triangle forward. To do this, you need to obtain the Aurora Ticket, which can only obtained through a Nintendo Event, such as Pokemon Rocks America 2004. Bring your Pokemon Fire Red or Leaf Green cartridge to any of the events in Atlanta, Minneapolis, or Seattle to receive the Aurora Ticket. The same goes for obtaining Lugia, Ho-Oh (both on Island 8, requiring Mystery Pass); and Celebi and Mew (details unknown). Note: Ho-Oh can also be obtained via a link to Pokemon Coliseum. In the Pokemon Fire Red, you will get the attack version of Deoxys.
# Lapras

On the Island 4, go to where you met Lorelli of the Elite Four. Then, Surf on the water . If you are lucky, you will see a wild Lapras.
# Ledyba

Ledyba can be found in Pattern Bush on Six Island.
# Mewtwo

Defeat the Elite Four, then go to the Cerulean City Cave. Mewtwo will be there. You will need HM6 Rock Smash and HM3 Surf.
# Moltres

To get Moltres you need HM4 Strength, HM6 Rock Smash, and HM3 Surf. Go to One Island, and all the way to the right until you reach water. Surf to the north and you will see land. Continue to go north until you hit water again. Then, Surf north again until you reach land. Go up and move the boulders. Continue to go up and you will enter Mt. Ember. Pass the mountain and you will see more boulders up ahead. Move them and you will encounter Moltres, the Legendary Fire Bird Pokemon.
# Zapdos

To catch a Zapdos, go to the Pokemon Center beside the Rock Cave. From the Pokemon Center, go up until you reach water. Surf to the Power Plant and go inside. Find your way around, and at the end you will find Zapdos, the Thunder type Legendary Bird.
# Legendary Dogs

The legendary dog that you get in the game depends on your starter:

Charmander: Suicune (Water)
Squirtle: Raikou (Thunder)
Bulbasaur: Entei (Fire)

To get all three Legendary Dogs, get together with two friends before any of you start the game. Have one player get Charmander, another get Squirtle, and the other get Bulbasaur. Each of you will get one of the legendary dogs: Charmander, Suicune; Squirtle, Raikou; and Bulbasaur, Entei. Once each of you has their own dog, trade one dog for another. For example, player one’s Suicune for player two’s Entei; player three’s Raikou for player one’s Entei; and Player three’s Raikou for player two’s Suicune. Additionally, use the following trick to easily catch Suicune, Raikou, or Entei without a Master Ball. Get a Pokemon the learns the move Mean Look or something similar, or get a Pokemon with the Arena Trap or Shadow Tag abilities to prevent them from escaping. If they do, you will get another chance to catch them, providing you do not make them faint.

# Johto Pokemon

To get your first Pokemon from the Johto Region, defeat the Elite Four. Go to Island 3, then go in the tunnel. Talk to the man and he will give you a Nugget. Go out the door, and there will be a small patch of grass. Walk around in it, and you will find your first Johto Pokemon.
# Duplicate Pokemon

Note: This trick will only work on Pokemon that have a gender. Either male or female will do. For example, if you want a friend’s Charizard but you do not want to trade a level 100 male Venusaur for it, catch a Ditto on Route 13 to 15. Take both your Venusaur and Ditto to 4 Island to the old couple and breed them. The next morning you will have a Bulbasaur egg ready to trade. This can be used to get all the evolutions of Evee. Note: This trick will not work on Mewtwo or most of the legendary Pokemon.

Use the following trick to easily reproduce rare Pokemon, such as Charizard, Lapras, etc. Capture a Ditto in Pokemon Fire Red or Leaf Green. These can be found in the cave at Cerulean. Transfer your Ditto to Pokemon Sapphire or Ruby, then take it to the Daycare couple in Mauville and leave it there. The quickest way to get an egg is to cycle back and forth a few times in front of the Daycare Center until the old man comes out of the gate. The egg he gives you will hatch into the first evolution of whatever Pokemon you put into the daycare. For example, a Charizard will give you a Charmander. Trade with friends to get the other starters, breed an egg, then trade back. The hatched Pokemon will have you as the original trainer.Some Pokemon will not breed in this way, even though they have a gender (such as Latios and Latias).
# Easy money

To get easy money, use a Meowth with the Pay Day attack in wild or trainer battles.
# Infinite Safari Zone time

Enter the Safari Zone, then walk into an area and stop in the grass Then, tap the D-pad, but do not move You will find the Pokemon in that area without wasting steps.

Find one location in the Safari Zone that suits you. Then, just rotate in place. Random Pokemon should you attack you every few rotations.

Go into a patch of grass in the Safari Zone with a Pokemon (like Oddish) that has Sweet Scent. When you use Sweet Scent, you will get attacked by wild Pokemon without having to move. Keep doing this until you find a Pokemon that you want.
# New moves

There are four new moves not found in earlier Pokemon games:

Blast Burn (Fire): Power: 120, Accuracy: 100, leaves the user immobile the next turn.

Hydro Cannon (Water): Power: 120, Accuracy: 100, leaves the user immobile the next turn.

Frenzy Plant (Grass): Power: 120, Accuracy: 100, leaves the user immobile the next turn.

Volt Tackle (Thunder): Power: 120, Accuracy:100, slightly hurts the user.

To get the new moves, you must go to the woman’s house on Cape Brink on Island Two and talk to her. If your starter is Charmeleon, you will get Bast Burn; Squirtle is Hydro Cannon; and Bulbusaur is Frenzy Plant. To get Volt Tackle, you must use an electric Pokemon. You must have the Pokemon first in your party.
# Poison Sting

The Poison Sting attack can always poison if you press and release A at the exact time.. Time it by looking at one of the bubbles. For example, fight a Mankey. The one that crosses the hand to the left of the screen is the one to time it by, by pressing A just as it starts to pass the hand and releasing it just as it pops. It always poisons the enemy. This works for all Pokemon with the Poison Sting ability against all enemies, except for Bug types. Also, the Constrict attack can always get criticals if you press and release A twice while the vines are pulsating.
# Berries

Find a black mark in the grass, then go up to it and press A. Note: This will not work with items such as Big Pearl, Stardust, and Rare Candies.
# Black Belt

After you get to One Island, travel up the path called Kindle Road and go towards the volcano. Along this route, you will encounter several trainers with Fighting-type Pokemon. Have your Pokemon use Thief to steal a Black Belt from each of the Pokemon. After you have a Black Belt, take it off your Pokemon and use the VS Seeker to fight the opponent again. Steal another Black Belt from his other Pokemon. Every Fighting-type on this route is equipped with a Black Belt, which boosts the power of all Fighting-type moves.
# Nuggets

Go to the last person (Team Rocket member) on Nugget Bridge. Lose to that person after you get the Nugget. Repeat this until you have the desired number of Nuggets. Note: If you save the your game after defeating him, you will no longer be able to do this.
# Rare Candy

To get more Rare Candies, look for some Meowths. You are 30% more likely to get one.

Don’t get a rabbit unless you are ready for a lot of commitment. Rabbits aren’t like cats and dogs. I know. I’ve got one, and I am constantly ruled by my Bunny Overlord.

First of all, get a ‘poo pan’ with nice high sides. Rabbits like to get right into the corner and back up to something when they are answering the call of nature, and if the sides aren’t high, you will have bunny body fluids on your wall and floor. I recommend one that is about half a foot tall. You can use plastic crates and cut a side out for easy bunny access. If we has to jump, we ain’t goin in there.

I personally use two high plastic poo pans, next to each other, so that if one is a bit unpleasant and I’m busy I can swap them over. We can also recline lazily in the other pan and chew our cud while we meditate, if the whim takes us.

Rabbits like to use their poo pans for recreation as well as relieving themselves. They will prefer to have a corner to ‘go in’, and a corner with some nice fresh hay to munch while they are contemplating the meaning of life. This is normal. So get a really big pan or two smaller ones near each other.

Use only paper litter. If you use the clumping kind and they eat it (and they will eat it. Rabbits have a penchant for eating things that will kill them, like electrical cords, clay litter, lead paint chips, plaster if there is a hole in the wall, and carpet if it is the right texture and we want to annoy our owners) and they will get a blocked intestinal tract and die. Thsi is called gastrointestinal stasis, and kills a lot of rabbits if they aren’t fed the right things.

When training Bun Bun to use the pan, you need to put some bunny boulders (poo) in the pan, and then encourage your rabbit into the pan. THey will then think “wow, I’ve been here before. I don’t remember that. Oh well, seems like as good a place as any to use as a toilet” and they will start using the pan. They’re pretty smart. They like to be clean and they also like to have a clean poo pan. If it’s too dirty, we’ll go elsewhere for our toilet needs, like behind the couch.

I recommend you google some rabbit care sites and do some reading. There is a lot more to rabbits than most people know, especially for house rabbits. THey are a lot of work, but are very rewarding.

If you find the odd bunny boulder in an unauthorised location (in the hall, near a doorway, or in the corner of another room) this is just a territorial turd. Vacuum or brush it up. Rabbits are herbivores, so their poo is pretty harmless. When we get comfy with our new surroundings, this will cease.

They even *advertise* the fact that it’s full of fillers. You watch a Beneful commercial, and they have ears of corn flying all around the screen.

1) When I chose a dog food, I chose one high meat content. I want to see preferably at least 2-3 out of the top 5 ingredients be meat or meat meal (first ingredient must be!).

Stay away from grocery stores brands. They are low-quality foods chalk full of fillers, preservatives, dyes, etc.. (Grocery store foods are those like Beneful, Old Roy, Alpo, Pedigree, etc.)

Beware “premium” foods. “Premium” does not mean good nutritionally, and is not a nutritionally high quality food. It has the same types of ingredients as grocery store foods, just a bit better quality of those not-so-good ingredients. (Premium foods are those like Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet, etc..)

Another thing to be wary of: A lot of vets will recommend what they sell in their office. They get profit from the brands they keep on their shelves, that’s why they push it. Truth is, vet schools don’t focus a lot on nutrition. It’s not saying that a vet is a bad vet because he recommends those foods, a lot of vets just are told “this is good food”, so they pass the message along without proper nutrition knowledge. Also, some dog food brands (like Hills) support vet schools, so vets have heard of it from the time they start college, which makes them think it’s good as well.

Higher quality food may seem more expensive at first, but it evens out. The higher quality the food, the less fillers eaten (and therefore the less poop comes out the other end). Your dog eats more to try to get the nutrition it needs, and most of the food just passes right on through. Also, it will make your animals healthier, so you save money on vet bills in the long run.

Innova EVO is a fantastic food. Along with maybe Timberwolf Organics, Orijen and Solid Gold Barking at the Moon, it is one of the best commercially available foods in terms of quality of ingredients. The only problem with grain free foods is that they are calorie/ingredient dense meaning they probably won’t suit a dog with a sensitive stomach. I’ve owned 3 roughs and bought them at various times from show breeders at a fair price. Not all puppies in a show breeders litters are show quality, so they sell the pets cheaper but they still have all the health tests back of them unlike most hobby breeders dogs.

You’ll want to start your pet out on a good quality pet food. With the new pet food scare going around you have to be especially cautious in what you buy your pet to eat. If you are interested in purchasing your food online I suggest Newman’s Own Organic Pet Foods.

I’ve raised my dogs on Nutro Natural Choice brand dog food. It’s found at pet stores. My pets have had healthy lives and I honestly feel that pet food had a lot to do with it. I use the “natural” one because adding coloring to foods caused problems for one of my dogs, she had allergies to it. Unfortunately several brands of their can dog food and cat food wound up on the recall list of pet foods that had a tainted ingredient that was harming pets. So I am not as confident as I once was about recommending Nutro variety pet foods. Even though, thankfully, our pets are still healthy and had no problems from eating the food.

You’ll also want to take your pet to the vet for regular check ups and to a groomer about every six weeks to have the nails trimmed and ears cleaned, if you aren’t going to do those things yourself.

One thing I don’t think any pet owner should be without is a something called a “Kong” it’s hard rubber hollow toy. You put a treat inside the toy and your pet slowly works it out. It’s a great tool to have when you need to leave your dog alone in the house. It really helps with separation anxiety which so many dogs have and are very destructive because of it. They come in all sizes and several colors. I can’t stress enough how good these are for your pet’s behavior.

Since you are getting a Chihuahua you’ll want to get a sweater for your little one. They get cold easily and sweaters and little shirts come in handy for them.

They also have a reputation of being yappy and biters. Which I don’t think is true behavior trait of the breed I think people coddle them too much and that makes them insecure and neurotic cause the aggressive behaviors. Take your dog to an obedience class in your area and you’ll learn how to be the pack leader to your pet and both of you will have a much better relationship with each other.

I prefer a harness over a collar when walking a dog, collar seem to choke them too often. I also like the retractable leashes when I walk my dog. It gives them a little more freedom but I am still in control.

Amazon.com has great prices on Advantage and Frontline plus flea and tick repellants. Much better deal than you’ll get from a pet store or the vet. Plus they have free shipping if your order is over $25.

I guess that’s all I can think of right now. I love dogs and think life with them is far better than life without them. I’ve been around them literally all my life. I know I didn’t give you a list but advice on what is important for the life of your pet.

I definitely suggest you take your time shopping around the organic section of the grocery store, as that’s where allergen-free food is usually found and properly/clearly labeled as being “dairy-free” etc.
For butter, you may be able to use shortening (not particularly healthy, but usually non-dairy) or Earth’s Balance vegan spread. You may also be able to use rice milk in place of regular milk in some recipes.
If you poke around Amazon, you can find a lot of recipe books for kids with food allergies.

Most products have an allergen alert, but not all, so you will have to get used to scrutinizing the lists of ingredients on everything.

It’s also a good idea to use a separate sponge to clean them, so you are not wiping allergens on her things. For her more severe allergies, you would be best to keep them out of the home altogether, especially when if it causes a breathing problem.
My son is gluten-free/casein-free, and it was overwhelming at first trying to find all the right products. It will get a lot easier for you- You’ll have so many things memorized, and you’ll be able to come up with your own recipes based on what she can eat. At 13 months, she won’t demand a ton of variety, so you have a lot of time to play around. Good luck. :]

Those are the best foods on the market right now for chins. There are some long-time ranchers who make their own feed, but they don’t advertise it, and usually don’t sell it in small quantities. Owbow and Mazuri you can get at either Petco or PetSmart, the others are all through feed stores or from on-line sources (individuals). Stay away from the other crap you can buy in pet stores. Treat filled foods and ones that sit on shelves for 2 years before being purchased are hardly going to benefit your chin.

Mazuri used to be a really popular feed, mostly because that’s all anybody knew about or could get. Now though, many people have switched from it because it has given their chins diarrhea. It seems like Mazuri tried to cover that up by adding acidophilus to the mix, but in my opinion that’s putting a band-aid on it, not fixing what caused the diarrhea. There are still people who use it and swear by it, but a growing number are switching to what they feel is a better feed alternative.

You want your fiber to be high and your protein low. Ideally, protein would be 15% or less, though most feeds don’t hit that. I feed the Nutrena at 16% and I’m really happy with it. It and PANR are rabbit feeds, but there are many pet owners and breeders who feed them and get excellent results. You can’t ‘buy just any rabbit food though, those two brands are tried, tested, and approved by actual chinchilla folk.

If you just need small amounts (not a 50 pound bag) you can check the classifieds at http://www.chins-n-hedgies.com. Lots of people will buy 50 pound bags then want to split them because they won’t come near to using that much. It’s still actually cheaper to buy that 50 pound bag though than it is to buy a smaller bag at a pet store. Some other people also take what they will need, then donate the excess to an animal shelter. If you just want smaller amounters, you can find them in the classifieds as well.

As far as treats, nix the raisins. They are high in sugar and chinchillas don’t digest sugar well. There are much better treats for your chin, and they don’t come from the pet store either. Bite sized nonsugared shredded wheat, dried rosehips, organic rosebuds, a pinch of old fashioned (not quick) oats, and chinchilla safe wood chews are a much better alternative to raisins.

Now the question is, for cats, do you feed wet or dry? Wet is the correct answer. The reason is, in the wild, cats normally get most of their water content directly from their prey items and drink very little. Domestic cats are no different, and because of the fact that they are designed to take in water with their meal, they have a very low thirst drive. Cats often just don’t drink enough. This leads to urinary tract infections and crystals. The bit about dry food being better for teeth is a myth and has not been proven in the least. You’ve also got a problem because of the pit bull’s reputation. People who see a loose pit bull may panic and scream and run – that will make even the mildest dog chase them. If your dog runs after them and the person is hit by a car, YOU will be liable since most communites require all dogs to be leashed. Your dog could also be injured or even shot by a cop in some places (like Denver, rumor has it).

Read some great books on training. (Try not to pick books randomly – there are a lot of bad books out there also!) These are some of my favorites and you can get them on Amazon.com

The Koehler Method of Dog Training – by William Koehler has some good techniques about off-leash training, but you’ll have to modify the method and make it a lot more fun for your terrier. They are much smarter and more stubborn than Shepherds and Goldens. You can’t do twenty repetitions of sit-down-sit-down with a terrier. He will get pissed off and turned off.

Hahaha i know exactly how u feel i have a min pin, and had the same thing happen i hate it when ppl c im trying to keep her inside and they just radomly open the door giving her the chance to run off…..its irritating cuz i had to chase her down the block but like u i also decided to invest in classes and baby gates, now thats all an issue of the past..

So, I would say a 45 minute walk in the morning, half an hour play time in the afternoon, and an hour run at night. Yep, that outta do it!

You also need to provide heaps of mental stimulation. Obedience training, interactive toys, hiding food around the house, etc. BCs are incredibly smart and need something to do or else they become destructive.

I would bet money this dog is need of a desperate home because of his exercise levels. Most likely he doesn’t have much training and is destructive because of lack of mental stimulation.

Just realize he may be some work the first few weeks you have him. And also remember that this dog will be a huge commitment.

First rule with Border Collies:

You can never know everything about them. They will always surprise you.

However, back to the question at hand. Border Collies excel at agility and anything really that engages their minds and their brilliant physical attributes and talents.

Please bare in mind though that they have an infinite level of energy. My two BC’s hike with me for most of the day on my days off and they can come home, sleep for half and hour, and be willing to go out again.

If you can honestly say you have the time and a 14+ year commitment then I think a BC would be a good addition to your family. However, BC’s, if not properly socialised can be quite an anxious breed so be sure to get your pup from a reputable breeder that has a line of brilliant herders/workers with great temperaments.

Personally, I use Evo food for my husky. She had been eating Purina, and something in the food upset her stomach and caused very runny stool. Through talking with my vet and experimentation, we figured out that my puppy seems to have a sensitivity to grains. This particular food has no grains in it at all, and is based on meats. Its still a dry dog food, so I can just toss the bag in a big rubbermaid tub in the closet. Makes storage of the food easy, and since its dry, its easy to take food with us when we travel. About once a week she gets a can of the same brand as a treat. She still gets table scraps occasionally, but I try to watch which ones she gets. Lol she thought she’d died and gone to heaven the other day when I accidentally dropped a piece of bacon!

I like the Evo food because its of a high enough quality that technically I could sit down and eat a bowl of it and be fine. There are a lot of brands that would potentially make me sick if I were to do that.

I included the website for the food I use for the dog, and an article from the Animal Protection Institute on dog foods and the nasty stuff we don’t want to think about that happens with that food. The site has quite a few articles on similar topics, I’d suggest looking over much of the site.

Most of grocery store dog food formulas, like IAMS, Pedigree, Science Diet, Purina,and etc contain “meat and bone meal” which has been known to contain dead dogs and cats that were euthanized in animal shelters. Their bodies are picked up and bought by the truck load by “rendering plants” , that also pick up road kill, dead live stock, and etc. They are shredded, and boiled. They skim off the fat on the top of the “soup” and collected it and sell it to pet food companies as “animal fat”, the rest of the animals’ remains are crushed up, dried and sold to dog and cat food companies as meat and bone meal.

Try mixing a little of the new into the old. Gradually increase the proportion of new until you are switched over. Keep an eye on your pets reaction, but typically figure on something like a week or so. And best of luck 🙂
