Your Questions About Rough Collie Temperament

breeding my rough collie?

before i go into specifics i want it known that i was a breeder for 15 and a half yrs so i know what i am doing if i decide to.
I used to breed shelties and some of the owners who had my pups have phoned me up once again asking do i have any more litters expected. I even recieved a call from someone who bought one 12yrs ago and has just passed away. I told them i gave it up 2 yrs ago and only have Rough Collies that i do not breed. But as soon as i mentioned about my gorgeous tri (lady of course) They begged me for one of hers. All of them said that i if i decide to breed again, they want one of her pups because she is of sound temperament and gorgeous markings.
Yes i would only breed tri to tri if i was going to do it but i don’t know whether to or not.
I gave it up because i started a family of my own, i would love to breed again and keep another from the litter but should i?
these people recieved lifetime help when needed about their dogs and now they know i have collies instead of
shelties they were more than happy to say ‘put me down on your list if you breed’
should i do it or should i call them and let them down??
plus for the fact i am the only person in my area/district with Rough Collies, and it would be great to see more of them instead of just me.

Rough Collies as herding dogs? And other breeds?

I was wondering if there is anyone on here that has ever used a rough collie as a herding dog for sheep or goats? I am curious about the breed,and I’m thinking of purchasing one and training it to herd. I have noticed that they are not very popular as herding dogs anymore,and I was wondering why?

I have a few other questions to anyone out there with experience.

What breeds have you used for herding what animals?
Why did you choose them?
What do you think makes them good dogs for herding?
What characteristics did you notice in your breed? (i.e. the border collie‘s use of the eye for herding)
Would you ever consider using another breed,or is this “your” breed?
What kind of herding did they do, like did they just move animals from one stall to another, or one pasture do another, or what?
What process did you go through to train it,and was it extremely difficult?
Your welcome to share any other info about your dog. I want to get started in herding mainly with sheep, and I have some land. I have not puchased the animals yet,but I will soon. I’m trying to learn as much as possible
