The Only Natural Pet Store online sells probiotics for dogs and cats. You just sprinkle it on their food. Like probiotics in humans, it’s full of the good bacteria necessary for digestion.

Helen asks…

My dog keeps eating grass, why?

I have heard when dogs eat grass it means they have upset stomachs, is that true? What could cause her to be sick and eat grass?

admin answers:

There are a few reasons why your dog could be eating grass.
The most common reason for dogs to eat grass is if they have an upset stomach. It will help your dog vomit if that is the reason. It could be that his dog food may be too rich or he just can’t tolerate it. So you can change his dog food. One of my dogs used to get sick on a regular basis and when I put him on a light version of the dog food he was on, he has done just fine. Or many brands also have a food for sensitive stomachs.
Other reasons are that some dogs eat grass is for the fiber. Their body tells them if they need something in their diet, so your dog may need more fiber in his diet. Once again, you can try changing his food. There are some who are high in fiber. Canidae is a good brand. It is organic and contains chicken and brown rice. Or try adding a spoon full of raw or steamed vegetables to his dog food. They are good for dogs, high in fiber, no fat and dogs love them. Try diced broccoli, carrots, sugar snap peas, cauliflower, etc..
The other reason dogs eat grass is that they like it and it just becomes a habit to eat it. They may have tried it as a puppy and liked it so they keep eating it. You can try to break the habit by getting on to him when you see him eating grass, if you get him to spit it out, praise and reward him. Any time he goes out and does not eat grass, give him a little treat and show him that you are proud of him. Positive reinforcement will show him that if he eating grass is not good for him.
Try changing his food first. Also, ask your vet if he can recommend a different dog food and if he can give you any advice with getting your dog to stop eating grass.
Best of luck with your dog. Hope I helped.

William asks…

Parents help me please, how much would you pay me to watch your child in this scenario?

Ok, so here’s how this would work, I would be watching the child of my mom’s friend (he goes to my little sister’s school and they are friends). And I may or may not be watching my sister too, but her son would be the main child I would be watching. I would probably be watching him two or three days a week all day over the summer.

Right now I am a lifeguard and so I am qualified in CPR, and first aid etc. and I also teach swim lessons so my pay is about $8.75 an hour because it’s just the local pool. I plan to keep my license up to date over the summer as well.

What do you think would be an appropriate wages per hour for being the nanny for her son? I looked online and it says that the average wages per hour for a nanny in Denver, CO (where I live) is like $21 an hour, but that’s for grown women who are working through a company and have more experience. I am only 16 so I don’t have a car, plus she is a family friend.

I just want some opinions you know? Because I would like to get paid at least a little more than I am now, but I don’t want to come off as greedy or rude to her because I don’t want to offend her.

Scenario:

Me-
Age: 16
Working experience: lifeguard, swim instructor (parents have requested me multiple times for private lessons because I am good with their children, and my co workers request to work with me.)
School: Right now I am in an honors class (english) and an AP class (US History), all my other classes are regular but I have A’s and B’s, accept for Spanish (a C but I am working on it!). I’m in Cross country in the fall, snowboard in the winter, and do Track: long distance running in the spring. Hobbies: Poetry, drawing, photography, volunteering at a horse rescue stable where I teach horse back riding lessons and work horses.
Other: I have a permit, but no license or car. (I will actually be getting my license a week after summer vacation ends, darn!)

You-
You are my mom’s friend because my sister and your son go to school together, and you are both vice presidents of the PTA (I really want to be careful about planning this because they have such a strong relationship). Your son is 9 years old and I have watched him before for a whole night along with my sister, and another one of their friends while the moms had a girl’s night.

Please keep in mind that even though I don’t have a license this doesn’t mean that I would be staying at home all day, both my mom and his mom have given me permission to take him on the mass transit bus and train. Plus it’s Denver, there are museums and ice cream shops every two blocks 🙂 They also have a pool on top of their apartment building. All I am trying to say is that I will make sure he has fun and we won’t just be sitting at home.

Sorry this is so long, but any advice from adults, grandparents, parents, uncles and aunts, anyone with kids would be appreciated. Thank you for your time 🙂

admin answers:

I am a parent. For full day babysitting, a daily rate makes more sense. It’s great that you are CPR certified and a good student, but don’t expect to make more just because of that. As a parent, I expect any teen I hire to be able to appropriately handle emergencies, otherwise, they don’t watch my kids. My sitters are your age and I would pay them a daily rate of around $40-$50 per day. I would also leave spending money, but would want to “approve” any outings; I may not go for all the activities you suggested; that can get expensive. Sounds like you are into him having fun, but a 9 y.o. Requires much less “supervision” than younger kids which is why I would not pay as much as you are probably thinking. With all new sitters (for both my kids and dog/house sitting), I always discuss the money w/them ahead of time and they have the option to accept or decline..but, we have never had anybody decline, which tells me our rate must be in the ballpark.

admin answers:

A couple things:

1) As a junior, you should probably have taken the SAT by now, or at very least some of the SAT subject tests. Most top tier schools require 2 subject tests (unless you’re submitting the ACT). Take the SAT soon!

2) You have a ton of extracurriculars, but many of your extracurriculars look like you’ve only done them for a year or two. Colleges prefer depth over breadth, so try picking a couple of areas and demonstrating dedication and passion.

3) Your GPA means very little as just a number. Schools will ALWAYS evaluate academic performance in the context of the school you go to.

4) GWU is much less competitive than any of the other schools in your “dream school” category. Georgetown is pretty competitive, but not nearly as competitive as Stanford or Yale.

You seem to have a solid beginning, but it’s too early to predict anything, considering that you have no test scores or essays yet. Good luck during this stressful process!
